The Ultimate Guide to

Grooming the Saluki

Learn to groom your Saluki for dog shows with our comprehensive guide

Your Outcome: You will come away with take-action-today inspiration and technical know-how of how to groom your Saluki with ease and confidence. You will learn about drying your Saluki, trimming using the stripping knife, pumice stone, thinning shears and clippers. You might be confused because Salukis should be ungroomed, natural or untrimmed. This is a common misconception about many breeds. While they should not appear coiffed or have any scissor marks, we do not want to have any excess hair in areas that will create optical illusions (and thus change how the conformation of our dog may appear). Of course, some Salukis have more hair than others so the grooming & trimming needed will vary - in this course we show you where to trim and how so that you have the skills to groom your own Saluki, following the natural structure of your dog.

About Your Instructor, Allison Alexander

Allison began her successful career handling Salukis with the Top Saluki in Canada and a Top 10 hound in 1992. Allison went on to have a Top Saluki and a Top 10 hound for almost 20 consecutive years in Canada. Allison has won more BIS and BISS on Salukis than any other handler in Canada, with over 100 BIS won including a top Best in Show winner, Windstorm Ruffled One, "Ruffles". Among her most memorable wins among her career are the Best of Breed wins at the Westminster Kennel Club with the mother and daughter duo, Windstorm Luck Be An Lady, "Lucky", and Windstorm One Lucky Lady, "Charm".

Salukis are one of Allison's favourite breeds, as well as one of her favourites to groom. She has bred, owned, and of course handled Salukis with great success and passion!
