Summary wrapping the ears video
Wrapping the Ears
- Never brush “dry” hair. Mist your poodle’s topknot with diluted Plush Puppy Silk Conditioner or Plush Puppy OMG. You do not want the dog wet as a light mist will suffice.
- PRO TIP- When wrapping the ear, always error on the side of having topknot hair in the ear, NOT ear hair in the topknot. Ear hair in the topknot generally drives poodles crazy and this causes scratching and eventually matting.
- Locate the bottom of the ear leather. I do not use a rubber band here. I use a small piece of J-cloth cut in a small rectangle or a small piece of thick "bounty" like paper towel, again cut into a rectangle.
- Wrap your small piece of cloth around the hair.
- With the “cloth” pinched in your fingers, hold the top of the “cloth” and the hair, all together. The length of hair is laid down on the cloth 2 inches from the right hand side.
- Neatly wrap the cloth around the hair.
- Pinch the cloth and hair VERY firmly together, placing a neat, straight, wrinkle free wrapper under the hair and cloth. Start the hair about 2 inches from the right hand edge of the wrapper.
- Wrap the wrapper around the hair keeping the wrapper straight, being sure all the hair is neatly encased in the plastic.
- With the “wrap” pinched in your fingers, hold the top of the “wrap”, rubber band and the hair, all together. The length of hair is laid down on the wrapper 2 inches from the right hand side.
- Wrap the wrapper around this section of hair, making sure all the hair is neatly contained in the wrapper.
- Once the hair is completely encased in the wrap and the wrap is wrinkle free, fold the wrap in half from the bottom to the band on top. Pinch everything together in your fingers.
- Still pinching both ends of the wrap and the band, once again fold the “wrap” in half from the bottom to the band on top. Pinch everything together with your fingers.
- Using two rubber bands at once, wrap these bands around the “wrap” 25% from one edge, three times around. Repeat on the opposite side.
- PRO TIP- ALWAYS ensure the ear leather is not in the band by ALWAYS sliding a metal comb between the ear leather and the top band.
